It's time once again for that most celebrated of blogging traditions, the Reds bloggers roundtable. Eight of us got together in a virtual setting on Monday night, to discuss the state of the Reds. The parts of the discussion will be popping up all over the Reds blogosphere, so just follow the links. We missed Blade of the Cutting Edge and the guys of Redleg Nation, but we had just about everyone else.

Participants were: Shawn, myself, your humble host at the Cincinnati Reds Blog; J.D., celebrated star of the Red Reporter; Doc Scott, redoubtable master of Reds and Blues; and JinAZ, up-and-coming star of On Baseball and the Reds. Lest you think the women were slighted, fear not: the fairer sex was well represented. There was, of course, the inimitable Red Hot Mama; Jacci, half of the team at We Heart the Reds; Sister Daedalus of The Church of Baseball; and Ashlee, writer of ....and This One Belongs to the Reds on mlblogs.com.

That's the scorecard, now on to the show. In this installment, the principals gather and introduce themselves, and prepare for the main event. I am your humble moderator:

Daedalus: Bets on who will win the HR derby? I pick Howard.
Shawn: Ortiz seems a good bet too. If not him, I'd pick Howard. Pujols will do well.
Doc Scott: I guess I'm gonna be pink again- Jacci said I had to
Jacci: That's right, you do!
Doc Scott: pink and chatting, there I am
Daedalus: I don't know what that means
Doc Scott: you easterners are all mean, so I have to do this from work
Jacci: You can ask it to choose colors for you?
Daedalus: you can ask it to flip a coin or pick a number, too.
Jacci: That's entertaining. Useless I suppose, but entertaining
Daedalus rolled a die. The die showed: 3
Daedalus: yeah, i guess it's to settle arguments?
Jacci: That is quite possible
Jacci: Oh, sorry we are so mean and eastern Scott
Daedalus: Scott, if it makes you feel any better, i am working too, though I am at home now
Doc Scott: that die-rolling thing is obviously for gamer nerds who can't drive or catch a ride from their mom
Shawn: Hey!!
Doc Scott: hey, I was one once
Doc Scott: Jacci, I'm continually frightened by your strange world
Jacci: My strange world?
Doc Scott: all of y'all's strange world
Doc Scott: (spits)
Jacci: I think you lost me.
Doc Scott: this happens a lot
Doc Scott: me losing people, that is
Doc Scott: either that, or you're a bot
Jacci: No, not a bot, just brain fried or something
Doc Scott: ah
Doc Scott: yes, I suspect I would know some possible reasons why
Jacci: We should be on the same page though, both selecting the same fine institution for college and all that
Doc Scott: right
Doc Scott: damned if I can remember what it was, though
Doc Scott: heh
Jacci: That happens
Doc Scott: okay, so question: is someone going to present the issues one-by-one, like the McLaughlin Group?
Doc Scott: or is this an all-out freewheelin' bar brawl?
JinAZ: I'm all for some degree of moderation...
Jacci: As fun as bar brawls are, I'm a pretty big fan of organization
Doc Scott: I think we've tried both in the past
JinAZ: I've always felt the more "organized" ones flowed better when reading them in the past. :)
Daedalus: JinAZ, that's an ugly color you have for your name.
Shawn: I'll do the moderation.
Shawn: In moderation
JinAZ chuckles
Doc Scott: I figured J was a closet Padre fan
Shawn: Giving everyone a couple minutes to get here.
Doc Scott: I, on the other hand, am a Lovely Ladies fan
Jacci: I think it claims to be gold, but I also think it's lying.
Daedalus winks?
Red Hot Mama: issue one: The season's going down the Gapper. Discuss!
Daedalus: oh good, it worked
JinAZ: Yeah, I think it's more of an olive than a gold...but whatever.
Jacci: Has everyone stopped talking or has my computer crapped out?
JinAZ: Are we started?
Red Hot Mama: Just waiting
Daedalus: issue one: I think we'll know if this statement is true or not about a week after the all-star break. All of those meltdowns by his royal suckiness Stormy Weathers and his royal court probably mentally affected the rest of the guys.
Red Hot Mama: Here's a question while we're waiting: what contributed most to Arroyo's horrible start yesterday. Choices are:
Doc Scott: well, I would think that Reds fans are fairly used to the "fast start, then warm the Vaseline" concept- it's been that way quite frequently over the past few years
Daedalus: Also, I'm thinking that in a week, Krivsky will make a big move. No way he won't.
Doc Scott: plus, it's a market correction that more properly reflects the Reds' actual talent level
Daedalus: So that will contribute to a better second half
Doc Scott: at least there's not this sense of sitting on hands
Shawn: OK, who's here?
Shawn: Roll call.
Daedalus: present
Red Hot Mama: aye
Jacci: here
JinAZ: Hello...
Ashlee: Here!
JinAZ: No JD, no one from Redleg Nation...
Shawn: and no Blade.
Red Hot Mama: JD's on his way
JD: Heya
Doc Scott: time for JD and his traditional Axl Rose-timed entrance
JD: I'm an idiot, sorry
Shawn: No time like the present, dude.
Shawn: Hope everyone got the questions beforehand, in the e-mail.
JD: Questions? Wha?
JD: Kidding.
