The Reds got off to a 4-0 lead, but couldn't hold on and lost the game 6-5 in the 9th. Another bad start to a west coast trip. On the plus side, Adam Dunn homered for the fifth straight game, tying a club record held by Ted Kluszewski, Johnny Bench, and Ken Griffey Jr. Starter Bronson Arroyo began well, but gave up two runs in the third and three more in the fifth. In five innings, Arroyo gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks, with three strikeouts. Following him, Jeremy Affeldt got two outs, Mike Lincoln got four, and Bill Bray got three. David Weathers, however, got only one and allowed two hits and two walks, and thus the winning run. Brandon Phillips had four hits, including a triple, Ken Griffey had two, and Dunn had two including his two-run homer, totalling three RBI. Ryan Freel and Corey Patterson also had singles. They try again tonight, with Matt Belisle facing Chad Billingsley. |
