The Reds win: Corey Patterson was not in the starting lineup. I can't help but think the two things are related. It was a pitcher's duel, but that seems to be the only sort of games the Reds can win recently. It was a 2-1 victory, with Bronson Arroyo pitching seven innings of one-run ball. He gave up just three hits though he walked five, and had four strikeouts. David Weathers pitched a shutout 8th, and Francisco Cordero looked like a true closer, striking out the side in order in the 9th. The Reds got just four hits and two walks themselves. The first ten Reds went down in order until Jeff Keppinger walked in the fourth. That was it until the 6th, when Ryan Hanigan led off with a double. Two strikeouts later, one including a wild pitch that got Hanigan to third and allowed Chris Dickerson to reach first, Keppinger grounded into a force play as Hanigan scored to tie the game at 1. Kepp stole second and Jay Bruce walked, but the inning ended there. In the 7th, Edwin Encarnacion doubled, moved to third on Joey Votto's groundout, and Jolbert Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly to put the Reds up 2-1. That was all the scoring, although Keppinger would single in the 8th and Brandon Phillips likewise in the 9th. Josh Fogg and Carlos Zambrano start tomorrow afternoon. |
