Thursday, the official site gave us information about who was promoted to the 40-man roster. There are 37 names on the roster currently. New to it are IF Juan Francisco, and P Carlos Fisher, Sam Lecure, Matt Maloney, and Robert Manuel. This protects these players from the Rule 5 draft, held next month at the Winter Meetings. At the same time, Andy Phillips refused an outright assignment, making him a free agent. What I am not sure of is who this leaves exposed to same draft. Obviously, with three spots open, the Reds can sign some free agents or make Rule 5 picks. Tyler Pelland was outrighted off the roster, and is thus exposed to Rule 5. We'll take some more in-depth looks at the roster soon. |
