Just when I was starting to feel better about signing Jerry Hairston, I saw Walt Jocketty's quote that Hairston would "play a lot of left field." I can't think of a worse way to deploy him, a bigger waste of resources. I've also seen Hairston quoted that he did better last year because he was "healthy last year." If two trips to the DL is healthy, I'd hate to see him hurt. We've really got to hope, and so does Jocketty (as well as Dusty Baker) that we get the Hairston that hit .326 in Cincinnati last year, not the one who hit .189 in Texas in 2007, or that hit .206 for the Cubs and Texas in 2006. I suspect he'll come out closer to his career average of .260, like his .261 for the Cubs in 2005. |
